The film was made as an experiment rather than for the sake of the narrative, and therefore has quite chaotic and surreal atmosphere. Two people - Elder Proog, canny, and Emo, a little nervous young man - live in an unusual design, called the «machine». Elder Proog is trying to reveal the nature of its emo, but the latter is boring, and he finds his interests. The film was originally the authors tried to show the abstraction of a computer.
Kurday Bassam, director «Elephants Dream», the following explains the plot of the film :
"History is very simple. I'm not even sure that it can be called complete. It is about how people create ideas, stories, myths, nature and reported, or impose them on others. Thus Elder Proog created (in my head) the idea of a special places (machines), which he tries to «show» Emo. When emo does not accept his story,Elder Proog in despair hits him. In reality it is a parable of human relationships: You can think of many things (money, religion, wealth), instead of Elder Proog machines, - the plot does not say that the creation of ideas is bad, only hinting that it is better to share than to impose them on others. There are many small hints about this in the movie - a lot of small things are important - but we are not too «obsessed» on them, we hoped that people will have their own thoughts about the plot, and make their version of the film. Thus (and others too), we have linked the plot with the idea of «free film».
